팩션은 10월 24일부터 11월 21일까지 아티스트 듀오 나나와 펠릭스 《청결함은 신성함에 버금간다》를 개최한다. 듀오는 2024년 ‘안전의 건축’이라는 대주제 아래 장기 프로젝트를 구상했으며, 프로젝트는 우리가 속한 오늘날의 세계가 ‘안전’이라는 개념을 중심으로 체계화되고 있다는 전제에서 출발한다. 이를 통해 무비판적으로 수용되는 ‘기술적 진보’와 한치의 의심도 없이 지향되는 '절대적 안전’의 패러다임이 자연과 인간 환경을 바라보는 우리의 인식과 행동을 어떻게 바꾸어 나가고 있는지를 탐구한다.
이번 전시는 인간에게 성가시거나 해롭다고 인식되는 모든 생명체를 가리키는 개념인 ‘해충(pest)’에 주목한다. ‘안전’을 중심으로 새롭게 구축된 사회 환경은 다른 종뿐 아니라 자연 자체와 인간다움마저 신뢰할 수 없는 존재로 여기기 시작했고, 이들을 잠재적인 위험과 위협을 지닌 존재로 간주되어 감시하고 통제해야 할 대상으로 취급한다. 통제, 투명성, 위생에 집착하는 인간 중심의 세계에서 우리는 역설적으로 우리 자신을 점점 더 해충처럼 다루게 되었다. 전시는 이러한 아이러니를 꼬집으며 안전을 확보를 명분으로 감시와 통제를 용인하는 거시적인 체계에 깃든 신념을 반문한다.
Faction presents Renlighet Är En Dygd (Cleanliness Is Next to Godliness), a show by artist duo Nana & Felix, from October 24 to November 21. Since 2024 they have been developing a new, long-term project under the umbrella title “Architecture of Safety.” The project is based on the premise that our contemporary world is to a large extent organised around Safety and Security. Through a series of multimedial installations the artists explore how our seemingly blind trust in technological progress and unquestioned strive for absolute safety are changing our perceptions of, and actions toward, nature and the human environment.
In this exhibition the artists approach Safety through the idea of Pest - defined as any living thing which humans consider troublesome to themselves, their possessions, or their environment. Within the new social environment, not only other species, but nature itself and even humanness are increasingly considered as uncontrolled or unreliable entities carrying potential risks and threats that need to to be surveilled and contained. The exhibition plays with this paradox, turning our safety mechanisms upside down: For whom is the absolute “Architecture of Safety,” which transcends even humanity to guarantee perfect peace?

Artist Book Trial Without Error
전시의 일환으로 팩션의 출판 임프린트 프랙션(Fraction)과 협업 제작한 아티스트 북 『착오없는 시행』(2026, 프랙션)을 출간한다. 아티스트 북은 프로젝트를 준비하며 나나와 펠릭스가 참고하거나 영감을 받아 작성한 동명의 글 뭉치 「착오없는 시행」(2026)과 임채연 문화인류학 연구자의 비평 「안전의 정치를 의심하기: 안전은 무엇을 하고, 무엇을 놓치는가」(2026) 2편을 국문과 영문으로 수록한다. 아티스트 북은 전시에서 열람 가능하며, 전시 중 일부 기간 팩션에서 현장 구매할 수 있다.
Faction is releasing an artist book Trial Without Error (2026) produced in collaboration with its publication imprint Fraction. The artist book includes two texts in Korean and English: “Trial Without Error” (2026), a collection of writings that Nana & Felix referred to or drew inspiration from while preparing the project, and “Politics of Safety?: What Safety Does, and What it Leaves Out” (2026), a critical essay by cultural anthropologist ChaeYeon Lim. The book can be viewed at the exhibition and, for part of the exhibition period, purchased on site at Faction.

- 1부: 나나와 펠릭스 작가, 임채연 연구자가 각각 발표를 진행한다. 임채연 연구자는 서울의 러브버그와 동양하루살이 대발생을 중심으로 ‘불청객’ 곤충과의 어색한 공존을 탐구한 바 있으며, 이번 프로젝트에 도시에서 함께 살기 부적절하다고 여겨지는 비인간 생물을 둘러싸고 ‘안전의 정치’가 작동하는 방식에 주목한다.
- 2부: 팩션의 윤혜린 디렉터가 모더레이터로 나서고, 팩션 및 프랙션 디렉터이자 아티스트 북 디자인을 맡은 이름이 참여해 프로젝트 전반과 출판물의 기획 과정을 소개한다. 이어서 임채연 연구자, 나나와 펠릭스 작가가 대화를 통해 도시의 안전을 명분으로 기능하는 감시와 통제, 그 과정에서 놓치는 것들을 재고하며 비롯된 프로젝트의 문제의식을 공유하고 논의를 확장한다.
- Part 1: Artists Nana & Felix and cultural anthropologist ChaeYeon Lim will each give a presentation. Lim has explored the awkward coexistence with “unwanted” insects, focusing on the mass outbreaks of lovebugs and mayflies in Seoul. For this project she focuses on how a “politics of safety” operates around nonhuman organisms deemed unfit to live alongside in the city.
- Part 2: Faction director Hye-rinn Yun will serve as moderator, joined by Reum Lee, director of Faction and Fraction who designed the artist book, introducing the whole project and curation of the publication. Lim and the artists will then be joined in conversation to share the concerns underlying the project, which stem from rethinking the surveillance and control that function in the name of urban safety and what gets overlooked in the process, and to expand the discussion.
