“라이징 포스”는 안온한 삶과는 유리되는 창작을 업으로 삼으며 ‘상승력’에 기반해 저항을 실천해 온 작가를 조망하고, 예술창작과 미술사의 사이클을 ‘비행’의 과정에 유비하는 중장기 프로젝트입니다. 토크, 퍼포먼스, 전시, 스크리닝을 아우르며 크게 ‘피크-잠수-활주’ 세 파트로 구성됩니다. 피크는 데뷔, 커리어 하이, 이주, 출산 등 삶의 터닝 포인트를 지나는 작가의 현재에 집중하고, 잠수는 작고 작가의 삶과 아카이브를 신진, 중견의 시각으로 재해석합니다. 두 파트가 프로그램으로 선행되고, 활주는 이를 종합하는 전시로 프로젝트를 마무리합니다.
《피크에서 보내는 기도》는 태양이 가장 높고 계절이 꺾이는 입추 무렵 대장정의 막을 엽니다. 3인의 작가 우주언, 김아침(이정윤), 하이메 페르무트를 초청해 토크를 마련하고, 각자의 작업을 지탱하는 갈등과 믿음을 짚어봅니다. 여기서 ‘기도’는 종교적 행위에 국한되지 않습니다. 오히려 인류 보편의 관습적 행위를 예술실천의 방법으로 빌려와 작가로서 살아갈 때의 여러 갈등, 현실적 제약, 이상과의 괴리를 드러내고, 이를 극복하기 위한 간절한 태도로 함께 고민과 에너지를 나누고자 합니다.
Rising Force is a mid-term project that spotlights artists who have made a career of creating outside the comfort of a settled life, practicing resistance through the principle of "ascending force," and draws an analogy between the cycle of artistic creation and art history and the process of "flight." Encompassing talks, performances, exhibitions, and screenings, the project unfolds in three parts: Peak – Dive – Glide. "Peak" considers artists at present moments passing through life's turning points—debut, career high, migration, childbirth—while "Dive" reinterprets the lives and archives of deceased artists through the perspectives of emerging and mid-career practitioners. These two parts unfold first as programs, followed by "Glide," an exhibition that synthesizes the entire trajectory and brings the project to a close.
Prayers from the Peak opens the journey of the project around Ipchu, when the sun is highest and the seasons begin to turn. It invites three artists—Jueon Woo, Gima Chim (Jungyun Lee), and Jaime Permuth—for a program of talks exploring the conflicts and convictions that sustain each of their practices. Here, "prayer" is not confined to religious practice; rather, it borrows this universal, customary human act as an artistic method—one that reveals the many conflicts, practical constraints, and gaps between reality and ideal that come with living as an artist, and offers a space to earnestly share and work through that struggle together.
