팩션은 2023년 5월 3일부터 28일까지 익수케 개인전 《력중력(Altered Gravity)》을 선보인다. 익수케는 유물에 내재된 역사성을 소거하고 감각적인 표피를 벗겨내 미디어아트로 재해석한다. 유물의 속을 채운 내용물을 비우면 그 안에 깃든 서사와 사회문화적 가치가 휘발되고, 오직 형태와 질감만 남는다. 작가는 실제 유물의 시청각적 데이터를 회화, 3D 프린팅, 3D 렌더링 애니메이션, 사운드 설치 작품으로 구현한다. 전시 제목과 동명의 영상 〈력중력〉은 역동적인 카메라 무빙으로 표피의 안팎을 넘나들며, 껍질의 촉각적인 물성을 극대화한다. 탄력적인 움직임은 배경 음악과 맞물려 단채널 화면에 리듬감을 일으키고, 거시 세계의 중력을 뒤집는다. 익수케는 오디오비주얼 어법으로 중력과 주체가 역전된 사물의 세계로 이끈다. 전시는 아우라를 벗긴 유물을 박피했던 2022년의 시도부터 신작 회화와 영상까지 아우르며, 고정적인 질서를 해체하고 역전시킨 여정을 종합한다.
익수케(b.1994)는 다양한 미디어를 통한 이미지 주조에 관심을 두고 작업한다. 물질과 언어를 미디어의 감각적 조형언어로 매개해오고 있으며, 《공포 워크숍》(공간 풀무질, 2022), 전시 《유물박피》(술술 갤러리, 2022) 등에 참여했다. 2020년부터 소설가 최추영과 팀 장소통역사로도 활동하고 있다.

Faction is pleased to present Altered Gravity, a solo exhibition of Ik soo Kaay on view from May 3 to 28, 2023. The exhibition spans from the artist’s past attempt to visualize the detachment of a content from its context to her latest paintings and video installations, integrating a journey of dismantling and twisting the law of nature.
The artist wipes out the historicity inherent in historical artifacts by stripping off their sensory silhouettes and reinterprets them as a form of media art. Meanwhile, hollowing out the inside, perhaps the eradication of the essence, leads to the loss of the narratives and socio-cultural values where only form and texture remains.
The artist represents the audiovisual data of historical artifacts into paintings, 3D prints, 3D rendered animations, and sound installations. Altered Gravity, which coincides with the title of the video installation, one’s view flexibly moves within and without the object, maximizing the properties of the tactile. Dynamic movements resonate with the background music and creates a sense of rhythm on the single-channel screen. These tactical attempts are visualized as an ultimate defiance of the law of gravity. Ik soo Kaay’s audiovisual language invites us into a world where gravity and subjectivity are twisted.

Ik soo Kaay(b.1994)’s creative interest lies in casting images through various media. The artist focuses on mediating material and language into the sensory formative language of media. Exhibitions she participated in are Workshop of Fear (Space Poolmoojil, Seoul, 2022), and Peeling off the Artifact (SOOLSOOLSPACE, Seoul, 2022). Since 2020, the artist has also been cooperating in duo with novelist Choi Chu Young as a ‘Jangso Translator’.
