우리의 현재는 과거가 도달한 미래이자 미래가 소급되는 과거이다. 우리가 살고 있는 세계는 현재의 단일한 점이 아니다. 과거에서부터 현재를 관통하여 미래로 향하는 선이다. 과거의 수많은 사건들은 현재를 규정하고 현재의 사건들은 미래의 수많은 사건을 가능케 한다.
그렇다면 우리는 과거에서 원하던 현재를 지나고 있는가? ‘더 나은’ 미래를 바라는 우리의 의도는 얼만큼 실현되었는가? 그러나 우리의 현재를 유토피아로 부르지는 못한다. 돌이킬 수 없는 기후 변화, 정세를 휩쓰는 극우주의와 적자생존을 강요하는 자유주의 광풍... 이 현재는 적어도 우리가 의도한 삶은 아니기 때문이다. 전시 《비의도적 삶》은 현재 우리 삶의 조건이 되는 과거-현재-미래 세계선의 사건들을 다룬다.
The world we currently reside is not confined to a single moment in the present; rather, it exists as a continuous thread weaving through time, connecting the past, the present, and the future. Our present is the point where the past has met the future, and the future, in turn, reaches back into the past, like a meeting of two tides, where past and future intermingle. The myriad events of the past sculpt our current circumstances, while it sets the stage for countless events in the future.
Indeed, are we navigating through the present we once aspired to in the past? To what extent have our aspirations for a “better” future materialized? Nonetheless, we cannot label our current state as utopian. Present, shaped by irreversible climate change, the upheaval of far-right ideologies, and the tempest of libertarianism imposing a survival-of-the-fittest mindset, is, to say the least, not in alignment with the life we intended. The exhibition 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 explores events along the timeline spanning from the past through the present and into the future, events that play a role in shaping the conditions of our current reality.
